- PhD Advanced Metallics
- MSci (Hons) Physics
Alex is a member of the firm’s tech and engineering practice groups. His work focuses on patent prosecution.
Alex undertook an industry sponsored PhD in advanced metallics at the University of Manchester in co-operation with the University of Sheffield. This research focussed on using atomic-scale simulations to improve our understanding of materials degradation in nuclear environments.
In conducting his research, Alex extensively utilised high-performance computing facilities and developed a strong knowledge of Python for conducting analysis. During this time Alex also presented his research at several large international conferences and published his findings in respected academic journals.
In addition to Alex’s more specialist knowledge in the field of materials, he also has a strong understanding of the fundamental principles which underpin both the tech and engineering sectors. Before undertaking his PhD research Alex obtained a master’s degree in Theoretical Physics at the University of Glasgow, taking further modules in astronomy and mathematics.
Alex is enjoying being back in Derbyshire, where he grew up. Outside of work he likes running slowly up hills and exploring the White Peak.
