Simon joined Swindell & Pearson in May 2011, and has since qualified as a European patent attorney. He has a broad scientific background and is able to work across different technologies, including in the chemical and engineering sectors where he has obtained valuable patents for his clients. Simon also advises in relation to industrial designs.
Simon sits on the firm’s patent law committee. He is responsible for keeping his colleagues and clients abreast of changes in European patent law.
Simon actively manages large patent portfolios for a number of clients, and in different technical fields. Simon regularly visits clients for face to face meetings, where he is happy to take the time to answer questions and to provide training to improve knowledge and understanding of intellectual property matters. Simon is very approachable, and provides straightforward practical advice which can be easily understood and acted upon by his clients. He works closely with his clients to understand their businesses, and to ensure that the most appropriate strategy is employed to meet commercial aims.
Prior to joining the profession, Simon worked for a number of years in the chemical industry. During this time, he gained considerable knowledge and experience in different types of advanced materials, including polymers and nanomaterials. Simon has also worked in the pharmaceutical sector, and has been involved in the design and synthesis of new therapeutic compounds.
Prior to that, Simon gained a first class degree and a PhD in chemistry and carried out research at the interface of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Bath. Later he worked at the University of Nottingham as a postdoctoral scientist.
Outside of work, Simon enjoys running and spending time with his young family.
