Joe is a chartered trade mark and design attorney and member of the UK Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys. His work focuses on both contentious and non-contentious trade mark matters, assisting with all aspects of trade mark law, as well as matters involving copyright, unregistered and registered design protection.

Joe works closely with a diverse range of clients, from individual entrepreneurs and SMEs to multinational corporations. His comprehensive approach to IP law ensures that each client receives tailored legal solutions that align with their business goals and needs, both in the UK and beyond.

Understanding that no two businesses are the same, Joe ensures that he fully understands each of his client’s interests to ensure that he provides strategic, commercially focused advice to better protect his client’s brands, enforce their rights and maximise the value of their IP assets.

In addition to his trade mark expertise, Joe has experience advising on design rights, both registered and unregistered. He assists clients with the full lifecycle of design protection, from assessing registrability and filing applications in the UK, EU and internationally, to enforcing rights against infringers.

Joe works with clients across a broad range of industries, including fashion, health and fitness, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, ceramics, advanced materials, and manufacturing, helping them secure and defend their brands as well as the visual design elements that set their products apart in competitive markets.

Prior to joining the firm, Joe graduated from Durham University with a first-class bachelor’s degree in geophysics with geology, being awarded the BGA prize for best geophysics performance and the Chevron UK award for his performance in petroleum-related geophysics.

Subsequently, Joe completed a masters of science by research in geophysics at Durham. This has provided Joe with a unique problem-solving approach, strong research skills and a good eye for detail. These are skills which Joe has enjoyed applying to the field of IP law.

Joe also holds a postgraduate qualification in trade mark law and practice from Queen Mary University of London, for which he was awarded a distinction, as well as a professional certificate in trade mark practice from Nottingham Law School.

Away from the office, Joe likes keeping active, whether that is lifting weights in the gym or going on walks around National Trust properties with friends and family. Joe is also an avid reader, and likes winding down in the evening by building and painting models.
